Dar es Salaam → Nyerere National Park Your 3 days Nyerere National Park safari begins with an early morning pick-up from
45 minutes bush flight from Dar es Salaam
Your Tanzania bush adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your Dar es Salaam hotel and transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport for a short bush flight to Nyerere National Park airstrip. The flight over the Rufiji River delta and the vast miombo woodland gives your first aerial perspective of Africa's largest protected area, covering 30,893 square kilometres of pristine southern Tanzania wilderness. Land on a grass airstrip in the heart of the park and meet your guide.
From the airstrip, transfer directly into the park for an afternoon game drive through Nyerere's spectacular riverine and woodland habitats. Large elephant herds are a near certainty as they move in long columns through the mopane and commiphora woodland. The Rufiji River system provides the backbone of the park's wildlife, with hippo pods, Nile crocodile, and extraordinary waterbird concentrations at every bend. Wild dog packs are more frequently encountered here than almost anywhere in Africa.
Arrive at your fly camp or tented lodge as the Rufiji sky blazes orange and crimson above the palm canopy. Nyerere's remote, wild character means near-total darkness at night. Post-dinner star-gazing from your veranda with a cold Kilimanjaro beer as the hippos begin their nightly chorus.
