The dry season (June–October) is ideal for game drives with excellent visibility. For the Great Migration river crossings in the Serengeti, visit June–August. The calving season (January–March) in the southern Serengeti is spectacular. December–February is great for Ngorongoro Crater.

Most visitors need a tourist visa, which can be obtained as an e-visa online or on arrival. The cost is typically $50 USD. We recommend applying for the e-visa in advance to avoid queues at the airport.

Bring layered clothing in neutral colours, a warm jacket for early mornings and Ngorongoro Crater rim (it can be chilly), comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera. A dust-proof bag is useful in the dry season.

The Serengeti is a vast open plain famous for the Great Migration and big cat sightings, while Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcanic caldera offering dense wildlife viewing in a compact area — including black rhino. Most safaris combine both for the complete Tanzania experience.
