David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Visit
30-45 minutes between Nairobi attractions
Your Nairobi day trip begins with morning pickup from your hotel and a drive to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage in Nairobi National Park. The orphanage runs public visiting sessions at 11am when orphaned baby elephants are brought out to the viewing area for their midday milk bottle feeding. Watching the keepers interact with the baby elephants, hearing their stories of rescue and the eventual process of reintegration into wild herds, is a deeply moving experience.
After the orphanage, visit the Giraffe Centre in Karen where you can feed endangered Rothschild giraffes from an elevated wooden platform and learn about the giraffe conservation programme. Continue to the Karen Blixen Museum, set in the original colonial farmhouse that inspired the book Out of Africa, for a literary and historical journey into Kenya's colonial past. The Karen Blixen Coffee Garden restaurant makes an excellent lunch stop.
Return to your Nairobi hotel or transfer to the airport for your onward journey. Nairobi is one of Africa's most fascinating cities and a full day of its cultural and wildlife attractions leaves you wanting more. The city rewards return visits.
