Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park
5-6 hours Kampala to Queen Elizabeth NP
Depart Kampala or Entebbe early morning heading southwest to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda's most popular game reserve and one of Africa's great wildlife destinations. The drive passes through the Rift Valley escarpment with extraordinary views across lakes Edward and George to the Congo forest beyond. The Kazinga Channel, connecting the two lakes, is visible from the escarpment road as a silver ribbon through the papyrus.
Arrive at Queen Elizabeth National Park and proceed immediately to the Kasenyi Plains or the park's northern Ishasha sector for an afternoon game drive. The Kasenyi Plains are one of Uganda's finest lion habitats, home to enormous buffalo herds that attract large prides. The Ishasha sector to the south is famous for its tree-climbing lions, which rest in the canopy of ancient fig trees in behaviour unique among East African lion populations.
Your first Queen Elizabeth evening at your lodge overlooking the park. The Rwenzori Mountains, the Mountains of the Moon, catch alpenglow on the horizon as darkness falls. The hippo pool below many of the park lodges provides a nightly chorus of grunts and splashes that becomes the soundtrack of your Uganda safari.
