The Mara Triangle makes up the southwestern portion of the Masai Mara National Reserve and runs down to the border with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. At 196 square miles it accounts for roughly one third of the entire Masai Mara.
The Masai Mara was established in 1961 covering 200 square miles including the Triangle, and was granted reserve status in 1971. The Mara River separates the Triangle from the rest of the reserve, and it is managed by the non-profit Mara Conservancy on behalf of the Trans-Mara County Council — a different arrangement from the remainder of the Mara.
It is valued for its location and for being markedly less crowded than the eastern side of the reserve. The Triangle contains crossing points used by the Great Migration.

Day visitors pay approximately US$80 per person; guests staying inside the park pay approximately US$70 per person. Open 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with no vehicle entry after 6:30 PM.
