Half-Day Nairobi National Park Tour
A same-day Kenya excursion designed to show a clear entry price, optional private upgrades, and enough context for clients to compare city experiences quickly.
Kisite-Mpunguti lies off Kenya’s far south coast near Shimoni, close to the Tanzanian border, and protects roughly 39 square kilometres of coral reef, seagrass and four small islands. It was established in 1978 to safeguard coral gardens that had come under pressure from fishing, and it is now the best-regarded snorkelling and diving site in the country.
The water is clear and shallow over the reef, which makes it unusually good for snorkellers rather than divers alone. More than 250 species of fish have been recorded, along with hard and soft corals, green and hawksbill turtles, moray eels and octopus. Bottlenose and humpback dolphins are resident in the channel and are seen on most boat trips.
Almost everyone arrives the same way: by traditional dhow from Shimoni, usually as a full-day trip taking in snorkelling on the reef, dolphin watching, lunch on Wasini Island and often the Shimoni slave caves. Between July and October, humpback whales pass through these waters on their annual migration.
July to September for the calmest seas and clearest water, with humpback whales passing between July and October. Avoid the rough seas of the long rains in April and May.
Shallow, clear reef around Kisite Island with hard and soft corals and more than 250 fish species — the main snorkelling ground and suitable for beginners.
The island opposite Shimoni, where dhow excursions stop for a Swahili seafood lunch, with a coral garden boardwalk and a village walk.
A coastal cave system on the mainland used to hold captives during the East African slave trade, now a memorial site and a common stop on the return from the reef.
