The simple answer to "when is the best time for bird watching in Kenya?" is that birding is excellent year-round — but the best season depends on your interests.

For many birders this is the best time to visit. Migratory birds arrive from Europe and Asia, resident birds begin breeding, plumage is at its most colorful, bird activity increases significantly and wetlands attract large numbers of waterbirds. Migratory visitors include European Bee-eaters, Eurasian Rollers, Ospreys, Common Sandpipers, Marsh Harriers, Willow Warblers and Barn Swallows.
The dry season is another excellent period, especially for combining birding with a traditional wildlife safari. Easier park access, shorter vegetation, improved visibility and comfortable weather make birding rewarding, particularly around permanent water sources — and this is the peak season for witnessing the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara.
