Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Tarangire National Park

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (or Arusha), you’ll meet your safari guide and begin your journey towards Tarangire National Park, approximately a 2-3 hour drive from Arusha. Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and diverse wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, and a variety of antelopes. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 500 species recorded. You’ll enjoy an afternoon game drive through the park, taking in the beautiful landscapes and spotting wildlife along the Tarangire River, which attracts animals year-round. As the sun sets, you’ll head to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay, enjoying the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, you’ll depart for Lake Manyara National Park, a 1.5-hour drive from Tarangire. This small but ecologically diverse park is known for its lush groundwater forest, alkaline lake teeming with flamingos, and famous tree-climbing lions. A game drive through the park offers chances to see elephants, buffalo, baboons, and hippos, as well as various bird species, including pelicans, cormorants, and storks. In the afternoon, you may choose to visit Mto wa Mbu village, where you can experience Tanzanian culture through a guided community tour, visit a local market, or enjoy a traditional lunch. In the evening, you’ll head to your lodge in Karatu or near Manyara for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you’ll set out on a scenic drive toward Serengeti National Park, passing through the highlands of Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you may stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater, offering breathtaking panoramic views. The journey continues as you descend into the vast plains of the Serengeti, where the real adventure begins. Serengeti is home to the Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeest and zebras move in search of fresh grazing lands, attracting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a thrilling game drive before heading to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and a night under the African stars.

Day 4: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

Today, you’ll spend a full day exploring the Serengeti, with morning and afternoon game drives. Depending on the time of year, you might witness the Great Migration in different parts of the park—whether it’s the calving season (January-March in the southern Serengeti), the grueling river crossings at the Grumeti River (May-June) or Mara River (July-October), or the return migration (November-December). Even outside of the migration, the Serengeti offers some of Africa’s best wildlife viewing, with large lion prides, elusive leopards lounging in trees, and massive elephant herds roaming the golden plains. You may also visit a hippo pool or stop for a scenic picnic lunch before continuing your adventure. As the sun sets, you’ll return to your lodge or camp for dinner and another overnight stay in the Serengeti.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, you’ll leave Serengeti and travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, you’ll descend 600 meters into the crater floor for a game drive in one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in Africa. The crater is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), along with thousands of zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and flamingos in the central soda lake. The landscape varies from open grasslands to swamps and acacia forests, making every turn an opportunity to spot incredible wildlife. After a picnic lunch near a hippo pool, you’ll continue exploring before ascending back to the crater rim and heading to Karatu or a lodge near Ngorongoro for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Departure

On the final day, you’ll enjoy a leisurely breakfast before driving back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport, a journey of about 3-4 hours. Depending on your departure time, you may choose to visit a local market in Arusha, a coffee plantation, or the Cultural Heritage Center for souvenirs. Your unforgettable Tanzanian safari adventure concludes as you head to the airport for your flight home.
